Stuart King

Stuart King is a highly accomplished artist, craftsman, woodturner, and photojournalist who has dedicated a lifetime to the study and mastery of traditional woodwork. Born in Buckinghamshire, Stuart’s passion for wood began in childhood while exploring local beech woods. This early connection to the countryside sparked a lifelong fascination with the rural trades, tools, and traditions that have shaped the landscape over centuries—influences that remain centre to his creative work and historical research today.

As an internationally recognised figure in the woodworking community, Stuart is a well-known demonstrator and lecturer. His deep expertise extends beyond standard woodturning into specialised areas like historical woodturning archaeology, folk art, and the creation of intricate wooden automata (mechanical moving sculptures). His historical knowledge has made him a go-to expert for television, leading to appearances on popular UK programmes such as Time Team, Great British Railway Journeys with Michael Portillo, and The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

Club members can look forward to an engaging demonstration that blends exceptional technical skill with historical insight. Whether he is sharing the secrets of ancient turning techniques or demonstrating the precision required for artistic woodwork, Stuart’s demonstrations are celebrated for being as educational as they are inspiring. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn from a true master of the craft who bridges the gap between historical tradition and modern wood artistry.
